Montenegro is a tiny and extremely beautiful country in the southwest of Balkan Peninsula washed by warm waters of the Adriatic. The country differs from its Mediterranean neighbors by its unique wild nature, soft climate and pure ecology. Most of the medieval architectural
attractions and ancient cathedrals have been thoroughly preserved and maintained their original beauty till nowadays. Montenegro hosts on its territory 2 of UNESCO listed and protected World Natural and Historical Heritage Sites – the ancient cities of Kotor and Perast.
Being a part of confederative Union State of Serbia and Montenegro, Montenegro has gained it full independence in 2006.

Due to its unique climate and untouched nature Montenegro has bright prospects for development of its tourism industry and pretends for positioning itself among Europe's leading tourist destinations.

 

 

Montenegrin coastline stretches from Igalo and Herceg Novi on the Croatian
border to Bojana river on the border with Albania. The length of country’s coastline is 294 km, of which natural beaches form 53 km. Montenegro is famous for its sand and jackstone beaches and rich subtropical flora. One of the World’s most wonderful natural bays – Boka Kotorska is situated here. It is formed by several smaller bays connected by narrow straights making up one of the biggest natural harbors in Europe.

Up to 80% of country’s territory are covered by woods, meadows and natural grasslands. There are 29 unique highland lakes. The biggest rivers are Tara, Lim, Ceotina. Tara Canyon of 1,300 meters is the second deepest in the World and the deepest in Europe. Tara River is a famous rafting destination. Besides beach relaxation, Montenegro offers a wide choice of activities such as diving, rafting, climbing, wakeboard and waterski, mountain bike, fishing and chasing, horse riding and paragliding. Winter sports are also developing actively in Montenegro in recent years. The most popular ski resorts in Montenegro are Kolasin and Zabljak, situated at the base of stunning mountain massifs of Durmitor and Bjelasnica which host ski season from November till April.
